While HTC launched its One M9+ and One E9+ in China on Wednesday, it also launched the Desire 626G+ Dual SIM in India at Rs. 16,500. The smartphone, which is yet to appear on the company website, will be available with major retailers and mobile operators soon as per the company.

Verdict

The HTC Desire 626G Plus is a big 5-inch midrange phablet with the main selling point being the octa-core processor. However, if you take that out, then you are left with pretty ordinary features which is disappointing in light of its price.

The main attraction of the device, as the name suggests, its its 10mm thick outfit which has a weight of 154g and is IP67 certified which means that it can resist dust and drops in 1m water for 30 minutes. It also carries MIL STD 810G certification i.e. it stays unaffected by vibration, thermal shock, salt, solar radiation, humidity, dust, vibration and rain. Below the display, there are three physical buttons as well.

DELL ANNOUNCED at Dell World this week that it is giving its Dell Venue 11 Pro 7000 series Windows tablet a significant upgrade in a bid to give Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3 a run for its money.

The Venue 11 Pro aims to “accelerate productivity for mobile workers” in the enterprise space with a thinner and fanless design, an extended battery life that claims to “get through the work day”, a travel keyboard for a full laptop experience and a full HD display.

Design & Display

The Dell Venue 11 Pro 7000 has 1920×1080 resolution full HD IPS display is one of the nicest features. However, despite its name, it doesn’t measure 11in. It’s actually 10.8in. But it’s a good size and is vibrant enough for everyday use. Images appear detailed with no jagged text, and it proved very responsive to touch in our tests. The tablet is also much snappier than Dell’s previous Atom-powered tablets.

Configuration & OS

The Dell Venue 11 Pro 7000 is powered by an Intel Core M CPU and will be available at launch with an Intel Core-M 5Y10a processor or the more enterprise-oriented Intel M-5Y70 CPU.

These also support for Intel’s vPro technology for CPU-level security and IT management capabilities. RAM options are 4GB or 8GB.

Unfortunately we didn’t have long enough with the Venue 11 Pro to really put it through its paces, but we did have a quick play around on it.

Operations were fluid and the Windows 8.1 operating system proved very responsive. We are looking forward to testing it thoroughly in a full review.

The Dell Venue 11 Pro 7000 can be configured with additional security features including two-factor authentication with integrated smartcard and fingerprint readers, as well as the Dell Data Protection suite of client security software.

Connectivity & Storage

The Dell Venue 11 Pro 7000 will ship with solid-state storage of 64GB, 128GB or 256GB, which can be upgraded via the built-in card reader up to 64GB.

In terms of connectivity, there’s a USB 3.0 port on the side and a micro HDMI port. It supports Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. LTE mobile broadband is available as an added-cost option.

Verdict

With its range of accessories, the Dell Venue Pro is more of a hybrid pc than a tablet. On the downside, the tablet along with the keyboard dock can give your pocket a hefty setback.
